Brittney Murphy

founder + co-owner + stylist
ABOUT  //  Brittney is a third-generation hairstylist, having picked up the craft from her mom and grandmother in her younger years. After a career as a professional snowboarder and ski racer, she pursued her passions for hair and fashion. Over the past 12 years, Brittney has worked as a stylist in Bozeman, including working at Soucie Salon before opening Theory in 2007. With Theory Salon, Brittney has created a unique, innovative, and inviting space that has been voted “Bozeman’s Best Hair Salon.” As a stylist and business owner, she is professional, educated, creative, and fun. She listens, and truly cares about each client.
STYLING PHILOSOPHY  //  Brittney draws inspiration from a variety of channels: music, art, fashion, film, architecture, design, and culture, as well as her co-workers. She believes in applying the fundamentals of hair-cutting, coloring, and styling theories to achieve optimal results. She loves creating strong lines and geometric shapes, as well as soft, natural, flowing hair. She loves to see the final result when a cut and color come together.
PERSONAL STYLE  //  Brittney tends to mix classic with contemporary styles, creating a look that her co-workers describe as “urban chic.”
CONTINUING EDUCATION  //  Brittney believes that continuing education is essential to being a successful hairstylist, and also to having a successful staff. Not only does she feel it is important to travel for education, but she also believes in bringing education into the salon for the entire staff. Over the years, she has attended numerous hair shows and advanced trainings all over the country, advancing her knowledge of hair cutting, coloring, styling and business. Brittney has trained with Bumble & Bumble, Oribe, Goldwell, Redken, Wella, and Paul Mitchell. Most recently, she participated in editorial and runway styling classes with Oribe in New York and Los Angeles, Goldwell Color Workshops in Santa Monica, as well as business classes with Luxury Brand Partners in Carmel, California in March, 2015.
